Presentation of the Mary Smith-Elizabeth Brook Human Rights Award

Document Description: The Campaign for Historical Accuracy and Truth raised $700 in funds for the first Mary Smith-Elizabeth Brooks Human Rights Award, named to honor to the two women who led the 1969 Foodworkers’ Strike at UNC-Chapel Hill. Nelson Johnson served as the event’s keynote speaker, and participants held a discussion drawing from the legacy of the strike to the current issues surrounding Black workers’ rights on the campus.
