Students Protest Pro-Confederate Rally at the Confederate Monument

Document Description: On October 25th, 2015, an organization called “Alamance County Taking Back Alamance County” held a rally on the campus in support of the Confederate Monument. The University did not attempt to keep the pro-Confederate group off the campus, citing the organization’s right to freedom of assembly, enraging students who were threatened by the seeming welcoming of a pro-Confederate group to their campus. Black students organized a protest against the fact that a pro-Confederate group had been allowed to protest on the campus, carrying symbols of a cause that had consecrated the right to the enslavement of black people.
