Letter from Coach Mack Brown to Chancellor Hardin

Document Description: After members of the Black Awareness Council and football team lead a series of public protests advocating for a free-standing BCC, Mack Brown, head coach of the football team, wrote to Paul Hardin assuring him that “none of these young men has found much success in football, so I’m afraid that they have been manipulated in some other areas for reasons of publicity.” Jimmy Hitchcock, one of the founders of the Black Awareness Council, was drafted by the New England Patriots three years later, and he became the record holder for the longest interception return in Patriots history.
