Julius Chambers to President Friday and Chancellor Sitterson

Document Description: Julius Chambers (UNC School of Law ’62) and law partner Adam Stein were retained as legal counsel by the foodworkers, who voted to form the UNC Non-Academic Employees Union on March 5th. This telegram, sent by Chambers to Chancellor Sitterson and UNC President Bill Friday outlines the legal considerations backing the foodworkers’ demands from the University: a minimum wage of $1.80 per hour, time-and-a-half pay for overtime work, and the appointment of a Black supervisor.
